Pittsburgh begins installing LED streetlights

Pittsburgh officials hope to have 3,000 LED — or light-emitting diode — street lamps installed by the end of the month in a move the city hopes will culminate with all 40,000 street lights in city business districts being replaced by the more efficient lights. City Councilman Bill Peduto has championed the change and claims the city will save $800,000 to $1 million annually in energy costs if all 40,000 lights are replaced with LEDs.
