Light Bulb Battle Pits Tea Party Against Manufacturers

The Department of Energy would continue to be barred from enforcing new energy efficiency standards for incandescent light bulbs under a planned House amendment that pits bulb manufacturers against the tea party movement. The amendment, which Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) has vowed to introduce to an upcoming appropriations bill, would prohibit funding to enforce standards that require the 100-watt light bulb, and eventually other bulbs, to be about 30 percent more efficient.

  1. The fact is that these LED bulbs just do not put out the same spectrum or quality of light as LED bulbs. It is not about "opposing efficiency". I have tried those 2700K LED bulbs that claim to be "the same color temperature" as the old incandescent bulbs and they are just NOT the same. The 2700K LED energy saving bulbs being sold right now give off an eery purplish orange tinted light, which also makes all the colors in my room seem greyish and weird.

I should have the right to choose what type of light I want in my own home. If LED bulbs were really so good, the government would not have to force people to buy them.
