Reflections in a Crystal Eye

Captured, the poetically minimal lamps by Michael Anastassiades for Lobmeyr, the Austrian crystal company, are graceful studies in translucency that invoke the form of the human eye. Mr. Anastassiades, a Cyprus-born, London-based designer, who is rapidly becoming a major figure on the international design scene, explained that the key element in this lighting is the cut-crystal globe, which encloses the halogen light source. The lamps, which were recently introduced during Vienna Design Week, incorporate spare brass frames that almost invisibly support the central inner orbs and handblown glass hemispheres that nest around them.
