Philips Puts Their New SlimStyle Light Bulb On a Diet

The new SlimStyle 75-watt equivalent looks like a light bulb that was caught in a trash compactor, but didn’t shatter for some reason. It’s an LED bulb (hence the ‘equivalent’), which means that the weight loss is also due to a sharp decrease in power consumed. The new bulb Energy Star certified, and Philips says their SlimStyle line of LED bulbs use 80 percent less energy while lasting 25 times as long as an incandescent bulb. So, while the new bulb is said to be 75-watt equivalent, it does the job by only consuming 13 watts of power. Philips estimates that reduction in power consumption should mean that one SlimStyle bulb will cost the average household about $1.57 per year to run.
