More LED streetlights on the way

City Hall is expanding a pilot project that beefed up streetlights in six Sioux Falls neighborhoods with brighter and more efficient Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps last year. Of the 19,000 streetlights found throughout the city, only a few hundred of them are equipped with LED bulbs, which require about half as much electricity to run as traditional bulbs and have a life-span four times longer. But City Hall is looking to change that by setting aside about $350,000 in the 2017 budget to install up to 500 more of them next year.
