Energy Department Invests $8 Million in Efficient Lighting R&D

The U.S. Energy Department has announced funding for seven R&D projects that will support key scientific advancements in solid-state lighting (SSL) technology. The projects are designed to help accelerate the development of high-quality light-emitting diode (LED) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) lighting products. By 2035, SSL could reduce national lighting electricity use by 75% — which would equate to the total energy consumed by 45 million American homes today and could save American families and businesses $50 billion annually.
