Xenon Vs. LED Headlights
Xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights have bulbs, but unlike halogen lights, they don’t have filaments so they tend to last longer than halogens but not as long as LEDs.
On dark roads, some xenon lights are so bright that even the low beams can blind oncoming drivers. To compensate, cars with xenon lights often have leveling systems that automatically adjust the beam pattern when the lights are turned on.

UV light can be installed in air conditioning, vacuum, and water systems
This is the first study conducted on the disinfection efficiency of UV-LED irradiation at different wavelengths or frequencies on a virus from the family of coronaviruses. The study was led by Professor Hadas Mamane, Head of the Environmental Engineering Program at TAU’s School of Mechnical Engineering, Iby and Aladar Fleischman Faculty of Engineering. The article was published in November 2020 issue of the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology.
“The entire world is currently looking for effective solutions to disinfect the coronavirus,” said Professor Mamane. “The problem is that in order to disinfect a bus, train, sports hall, or plane by chemical spraying, you need physical manpower, and in order for the spraying to be effective, you have to give the chemical time to act on the surface. Disinfection systems based on LED bulbs, however, can be installed in the ventilation system and air conditioner, for example, and sterilize the air sucked in and then emitted into the room.
“We discovered that it is quite simple to kill the coronavirus using LED bulbs that radiate ultraviolet light,” she explained. “We killed the viruses using cheaper and more readily available LED bulbs, which consume little energy and do not contain mercury like regular bulbs. Our research has commercial and societal implications, given the possibility of using such LED bulbs in all areas of our lives, safely and quickly.”
The researchers tested the optimal wavelength for killing the coronavirus and found that a length of 285 nanometers (nm) was almost as efficient in disinfecting the virus as a wavelength of 265 nm, requiring less than half a minute to destroy more than 99.9% of the coronaviruses. This result is significant because the cost of 285 nm LED bulbs is much lower than that of 265 nm bulbs, and the former are also more readily available.
Eventually, as the science develops, the industry will be able to make the necessary adjustments and install the bulbs in robotic systems or air conditioning, vacuum, and water systems, and thereby be able to efficiently disinfect large surfaces and spaces. Professor Mamane believes that the technology will be available for use in the near future.
It is important to note that it is very dangerous to try to use this method to disinfect surfaces inside homes. To be fully effective, a system must be designed so that a person is not directly exposed to the light.
In the future, the researchers will test their unique combination of integrated damage mechanisms and more ideas they recently developed on combined efficient direct and indirect damage to bacteria and viruses on different surfaces, air, and water.

Mundus Pro by Einova is a fully certified Sanitizing Device
In January 2020, Igor Spinella, CEO of Einova first visualized a need for UV-C phone sanitizers as it is common knowledge that cell phones can often carry many harmful bacteria and viruses.
With the COVID-19 pandemic becoming increasingly serious, Spinella decided it was time to turn his vision into reality. Einova's team conceptualized the idea of a UV-C sanitizing device that could also charge your devices wirelessly, naming it the Mundus Pro.
On October 7th, after researching, designing and achieving all necessary regulatory certifications. Einova released a 30-day Kickstarter campaign for the Mundus Pro, the first UV-C sanitizing device to be EPA and Intertek Certified with the ability to charge up to three Qi compatible devices simultaneously.
The sanitizing process takes only 8-minutes to complete a full cleaning cycle. The process is substantially finished at 4 minutes, and the most dangerous DNA and RNA viruses and bacteria are eliminated in less than 2 minutes. Mundus Pro has space for multiple items such as two phones at the same time, sunglasses, watches, earpieces, face coverings, or anything else that fits. The Mundus Pro is set to be a gamechanger.
An LED that can be integrated directly into computer chips
But that could one day change, thanks to new research from MIT’s Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE).
Researchers have fabricated a silicon chip with fully integrated LEDs, bright enough to enable state-of-the-art sensor and communication technologies. The advance could lead to not only streamlined manufacturing, but also better performance for nanoscale electronics.
The team designed a silicon-based LED with specially engineered junctions — the contacts between different zones of the diode — to enhance brightness. This boosted efficiency: The LED operates at low voltage, but it still produces enough light to transmit a signal through 5 meters of fiber optic cable. Plus, GLOBALFOUNDRIES manufactured the LEDs right alongside other silicon microelectronic components, including transistors and photon detectors. While Xue’s LED didn’t quite outshine a traditional III-V semiconductor LED, it easily beat out prior attempts at silicon-based LEDs.

Santa Claus Has New Test For Fake Germicidal UV Light Wand Stocking Stuffers
Quanta X Technology, the parent company of QuantaDose, CEO Katie Webb suggests, “Anyone in Santa’s shoes gifting a UVC device to a friend or family member needs to make sure the UV-C device is real, and they also need to understand the potential dangers when using a UVC device for disinfecting objects and surfaces. Real UV-C lights aren’t toys made by Santa’s elves as UVC light can damage your eyes in seconds and burn your skin.”
“In fact, UV-C light is a well-known carcinogen, and some UV light devices will produce ozone as a result of 184nm light from the mercury spectrum line escaping a quartz glass tube. Ozone producing UV lights require even more safety precautions that are worth checking twice — to see if your UV products being gifted this holiday season are naughty or nice,” said Webb. According to QuantaDose, “confusion has found the most fertile of breeding grounds as consumers attempt to weigh virus prevention advice coming at them from all directions during the COVID-19 pandemic.“
In this confusion, profits have soared for online retailers like Amazon that offer an almost unlimited selection of sanitizing products. Many devices sold by third-party sellers on these marketplaces make unverified claims regarding UV disinfecting power wavelengths used in these devices for virus protection. As it turns out, there is no shortage of fake UV disinfection products on the market.
The QuantaDose UVC light test card aims to reduce consumer confusion when choosing a real UV-C light solution capable of meeting their cleaning needs. World-class phone support is even available from a toll-free number on the back of the QuantaDose UV-C test card (1-800-713-9004) to help consumers spot fake UVC LEDs and Lamps.
“UV light is a valuable tool providing the UV wavelength, UV power, and UV duration are suitable for the application,” notes John Coates, CTO and senior research scientist at Quanta X Technology.
Cheaper LEDs can disinfect against COVID-19
The key finding is that LEDs emitting light with a wavelength of 285 nanometers were almost as efficient in disinfecting the virus as those with a wavelength of 265 nanometers, requiring less than half a minute to destroy more than 99.9% of the coronaviruses.
