Decorative Lighting Market size to grow by USD 8.32 billion grow 2021 to 2026

The potential growth difference for the decorative lighting market between 2021 and 2026 is USD 8.32 billion.

The evolving lighting product design concept leading to premiumization is one of the key drivers supporting the decorative lighting market growth. Interior designers introduced innovative and attractive design concepts such as traditional, modern, contemporary, and transitional. Decorative lighting products such as luxury chandeliers designed by interior designers are available at premium prices. These chandeliers enjoy huge demand among the high-net-worth residential users.

Several luxurious decorative lighting products are manufactured in Italy, the UK, Spain, Germany, and the US. Thus, the premiumization of decorative lighting products through distinctive design concepts has led to increased adoption by premium customers contributing to market growth, which is expected to continue during the forecast period.

The perceived value gap of customers is one of the factors hindering the decorative lighting market growth. For instance, the priority for customers is to purchase decent-quality decorative lighting products at affordable prices. However, their design may vary. This is due to the presence of many retailers offering multiple designs. The presence of many local retailers makes the market more fragmented, therefore making the penetration of international brands difficult. This creates a high-value gap while buying decorative lighting products, which are more design-driven. The prices of decorative lighting products vary according to distinctive designs. This creates a challenge for established brands and influences them to lower the prices of their products, thereby, hindering market growth.

Stanford engineers develop a stretchable display

As part of an overarching quest to build skin-inspired electronics that are soft and stretchy, Stanford University chemical engineer Zhenan Bao and her research team have been developing a display to change that. Now, after more than three years of work, they show the proof of principle toward a stretchable, potentially reshapable display in a new paper published March 23 in Nature.

Their invention hinges on the discovery of a method to produce a high-brightness elastic light-emitting polymer, which functions like a filament in a lightbulb. The group’s resulting display is made entirely of stretchy polymers – synthetic plastic materials. The device has a maximum brightness at least two times that of a cellphone and can be stretched up to twice its original length without tearing.

Most light-emitting polymers are stiff and crack when stretched. Scientists can increase their flexibility by adding elastic insulating materials, such as rubber. But these additives decrease electrical conductivity, which requires the polymer to use a dangerously high voltage to generate even dim light.

About three years ago, however, postdoctoral scholar Zhitao Zhang discovered that a yellow-colored light-emitting polymer called SuperYellow not only became soft and pliable but also emitted brighter light when mixed with a type of polyurethane, a stretchy plastic.

Researchers claim distortion-free, stretchable micro-LED meta-display technology

The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) has successfully developed the first stretchable meta-display technology that can be stretched up to 25% without image distortion.

The Department of Nano-Mechanics at KIMM has been researching the field of micro-LED transfer technology since 2008.

Most stretchable materials in nature, such as rubber, demonstrate shrinkage in width when stretched lengthwise, thus resulting in image distortion. This was also the same in cases of the rubber-based stretchable displays.

The KIMM research team applied mechanical metamaterials with a negative Poisson's ratio to a circuit board. The Poisson's ratio refers to the ratio at which the width of material shrinks when it is stretched lengthwise. When a mechanical metamaterial with a Poisson's ratio of -1 is stretched lengthwise, it demonstrates the effect of stretching at the same ratio widthwise. Thus, a display using such materials is characterized by images that are not distorted.
