Motion detection turns your lights on and off without the need for sensors
The SpaceSense feature is an innovation in the consumer lighting industry developed by WiZ. It uses Wi-Fi signals that are already present in the room to detect motion – without the need of dedicated sensors and batteries. Wi-Fi signals are slightly disturbed when people move around in a room, like a ripple in a swimming pool. By measuring the small deviations in signal strength caused by those disturbances, the WiZ lights can determine if there is an object moving in the room.
The detection is omnidirectional and doesn't require line of sight during installation, like in the case for a traditional motion sensor. The sensitivity of the system can be adjusted, for example, to prevent your pets from turning the lights on and off while running in and out of the room. You simply install at least two lights per room and connect them with the WiZ app V2. The new feature is completely opt-in so all WiZ users can decide themselves whether they would like to make use of it or not.

Smart Lighting Market Size is projected to reach USD 94.16 Billion by 2030
The increasing global demand for energy is causing an increase in energy prices, a decrease in energy supply, and a rise in fear around climate change and associated liabilities. The future global economy is anticipated to have a higher energy demand. Consumption is expected to climb by more than 50 percent over the next 20 to 25 years, primarily due to the rising energy demand in developing nations such as China and India.
Lighting accounts for most household, commercial, and industrial electricity consumption. 15 percent of global electricity usage and 5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions are attributable to lighting. Using LED lights with high efficiency is a solution to this energy dilemma. It is one of the primary causes responsible for the consumer trend toward smart lighting, which is contributing to the rapid expansion of the worldwide smart lighting market. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), intelligent lighting solutions can save up to 35 percent more energy than conventional lighting systems. Compared to other technologies, LED technology is more efficient and has a longer lifespan, which is another reason customers are shifting to this technology.
Infrared Light-emitting Diode Market to record USD 201.68 Mn growth
The global infrared LED market is fragmented. The market comprises some well-established players that are involved in the design and manufacturing of infrared LEDs for end-users across a wide range of industries.
These vendors are making significantly huge investments in research and development to push better products into the market and expand their customer base. Mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships are some other ways the vendors in this market are taking to strengthen their position. As the market growth over the next five years is expected to remain slow, the landscape is expected to remain competitive during the forecast period.
Although the increasing government security initiatives for video surveillance will offer immense growth opportunities, the ongoing slowdown in the Chinese economy will challenge the growth of the market participants. To make the most of the opportunities, market vendors should focus more on the growth prospects in the fast-growing segments, while maintaining their positions in the slow-growing segments.

Optronics’ FusionX LED Combo Lamp Fully FMVSS 108 Compliant
Optronics’ new FusionX LED combination stop, tail, turn, backup and warning lights look like nothing else around and are the first of their kind to enable their brake function to override their warning function while in use.
Before the introduction of Optronics’ Fusion Series LED combination lamps in 2014, vehicles used separate six-inch oval or four-inch round stop, tail, turn lamps and backup lamps. Each lamp needed its own mounting hole, and these holes were made in the vehicle body panels, frame posts, docking plates or gussets. Optronics Fusion lamps changed the equation by consolidating multiple lighting functions into a single lamp footprint, reducing complexity and cost, while maintaining structural integrity. The addition of a compliant warning light function in the FusionX was a logical next step in the evolution of the Fusion Series.
Until now, combination lamps with warning light features have not met FMVSS 108 standards, because their flashing warning lights continue to operate even when their brake lights illuminate. The dual illumination patterns of these noncompliant lamps have the potential of confusing others on the road, by presenting them with mixed signals. The issue made these lamps impractical for many vehicles, particularly those in the utility, construction and roadside service sectors.

Global Market for Lighting in Commercial Buildings Will Grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 2.5% Through 2031
According to a new report from Guidehouse Insights, because of anticipated increases in LED shipments between 2022 and 2031, global lamp and luminaire revenue is expected to grow modestly, at a 2.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR).
Standard market forces—the confluence of LED products' high level of performance and relatively low cost with increasing energy prices and concerns about the environmental impacts of building operations—are sufficient to increase LED adoption.
Though LED lighting systems have become the default choice for new construction and retrofit lighting installations, a sizable global installed base of legacy lighting products remains, fostering continued non-LED lamp sales for replacement of failed lamps.
Recently, government interventions, including lighting efficiency regulations and financial subsidies, have been critical drivers of LED market penetration. Because LED lamps and luminaires are long-lasting, increasing market penetration of this technology is slowing market growth, according to the report.
Silanna UV Makes Ultraviolet LED Manufacturing Breakthrough With Nanostructures
The new manufacturing approach promises to make deep ultraviolet and far ultraviolet LEDs easier to make, more efficient at shorter wavelengths, and more reliable. With the renewed focus on air, water and surface disinfection following the Covid-19 pandemic, these next-generation UV LEDs are already attracting interest.
Silanna UV's patented short period superlattice (SPSL) approach overcomes many of the difficulties that plague competing AlGaN UV-C LED technologies. In essence, Silanna UV has effectively created a new material, a nanostructure, which is much easier to control and has properties that are far superior to traditional AlGaN. The benefits for UV-C LED quality are revolutionary.
For years, UV-C LED manufacturers have relied on traditional AlGaN Aluminum Gallium Nitride alloy) formulas. In theory, by adjusting the ratio of aluminum and gallium metal in the alloy lattice, the bandgap can be tuned to produce UV emissions from 340 nm to 210 nm, covering most of the UV spectrum. But in reality, emission below 260nm require high Al-content AlGaN, which, unlike GaN, makes it very difficult to achieve desirable n and p-type doping, particularly at the shortest wavelengths, leading to poor electrical performance. High-Al content AlGaN also suffers from light extraction issues due to the polarization of emitted light, causing significant loss of light output, particularly in the far UV range below 240nm.
To overcome these problems in UV LEDs, Silanna UV uses new technology. Instead of the common AlGaN method, Silanna UV uses SPSL.
In this approach, rather than using a crude old-fashioned ternary alloy, alternating layers of AlN and GaN (as many as several hundred layers) are meticulously built up to create a so-called SPSL. Unlike a traditional ternary alloy, this SPSL's key properties – including bandgap and conductivity – can be finely tuned by simply adjusting the thickness of the constituent layers. This means that the issues caused by High-Al content AlGaN are mitigated – in particular, that older method's poor electrical characteristics and short wavelength light-loss.
The SPSL technology gives Silanna UV huge advantages over UV-C LED competitors, including the maintenance of high power at shorter wavelengths, superior electrical properties, and outstanding lifetime performance.

Environmental risks from artificial nighttime lighting widespread and increasing across Europe
A group of scientists used imagery obtained by astronauts on the International Space Station to map variation in the spectral composition of lighting across Europe for 2012–2013 and 2014–2020.
These show a regionally widespread spectral shift, from that associated principally with high-pressure sodium lighting to that associated with broad white light-emitting diodes and with greater blue emissions. Reexpressing the color maps in terms of spectral indicators of environmental pressures, we find that this trend is widely increasing the risk of harmful effects to ecosystems.
