Boathouse Row will remain dark through early 2024
The LED lights that have long illuminated the historic landmark are now expected to turn back on sometime in early 2024, according to a statement from the Fairmount Park Conservancy, which is overseeing the upgrades in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation 123.
The $2.1 million project to upgrade and replace Boathouse Row’s LED lights was originally expected to be completed by the end of 2023, but due to supply chain issues, the project will now stretch into the first quarter of 2024.

Bismarck to speed up LED streetlight project
Bismarck Traffic Maintenance Superintendent Paul Lies said the city decided to finish the project in two years, instead of four, because of the high demand from residents who have seen the benefits of LED lights.
Many residents have praised the LED lights, while some have complained that they are too bright. Lies said the brightness can be adjusted by changing the angle of the fixture. He also said the LED lights are cheaper and more durable than the HPS lights, which have become scarce and expensive in recent years.
The city has already converted about 4,700 streetlights to LEDs and plans to do the remaining 5,000 in 2024 and 20255.

MLGW ‘working hard to correct’ new LED streetlamps in Memphis
According to a report by Action News 5, some of these dysfunctional streetlamps were seen blinking rapidly in different areas along Walnut Grove, causing an obnoxious and hazardous distraction for drivers .

This huge 14,000-square-foot Indianapolis-area residence in home features include a lower-level entertainment space (think ultimate walk-out basement overlooking a Pete Dye-designed golf course) with a pool, hot tub, two bars, a gym, a bourbon room, and a state-of-the-art theater featuring technology from Crimson AV’s LED Experts Group.
The homeowners held nothing back when it came to asking local integrator Intelligent Living Solutions of Zionsville, Ind., to turn their dream home into a smart home as well. Fluence and Cannabis Business Times’ Annual Report Reinforces Dominant Adoption of LEDs
The accelerated adoption of LEDs among commercial cannabis growers continued to be a dominant theme in this year’s report. For the second year in a row, at least 70% of study participants from commercial indoor or greenhouse operations with supplemental lighting used LEDs in propagation, vegetation or flowering. Under LED technology, this year’s survey also revealed that 66% of commercial growers reported a yield of more than 50 grams per square foot of canopy—an increase of 11 percentage points from 2022.
“Fluence remains dedicated to providing industry-leading support for cannabis cultivators. That includes collaborating with leading authorities like Cannabis Business Times to publish the ‘State of the Cannabis Lighting Market’ report to amplify growers’ voices and provide critical insights into how they are navigating the market,” said Steve Graves, senior vice president of strategy and product at Fluence.
This year’s “State of the Cannabis Lighting Market” report highlights many growers’ increasing focus on crop quality as an important differentiator in a market seeing oversaturation and consolidation. A majority of respondents in this year’s survey (62%) listed “crop quality” as the most important factor for using LEDs in cannabis production—“yield” came in second place at 16%.
“In the midst of economic and operational headwinds, we will continue to uphold our commitment to advancing LED adoption and helping cultivators improve their yields and support their financial success through innovative lighting strategies,” Graves said.
Growers in this year’s survey who are not planning to use LEDs in cannabis flowering cited fears related to return on investment and capital expenditures. Yet more than half of survey respondents (56%) haven’t explored rebates, which are one of the most effective cost-saving tools available to growers making capital investments—while another quarter of respondents (24%) are aware of rebates but don’t plan to apply for one. Fluence’s award-winning rebate program has saved growers more than $26 million to date.

Lumileds launches Philips Xperion 6000 LED Flood and Flood Mini Work Lights
The Xperion 6000 LED Flood and Flood Mini feature pivoting handles with powerful magnets embedded in them, allowing users to mount the Xperion 6000 LED flood lights on most any metallic surface. In addition, the handles are formed from two halves that can be rotated apart to create hooks that can be used to hang the lights. These options make it easy for technicians to quickly aim the light where they need it to get their job done. Both the Flood Audio and Flood mini feature ABS rubber grip surfaces that maintain excellent grip even when covered with oil or grease.
The Philips Xperion 6000 Flood Audio features a variable beam that delivers 1000 lumens in flood mode, and 250 lumens in spotlight mode. The light includes built-in Bluetooth speakers that allow audio to be played directly through the work light, and also serves as a USB power bank. The Flood Audio features a motion detection function and a smart-zoom knob that allows users to easily control the light, even while wearing work gloves. The new products meet the highest energy label, ‘A’, under the EU’s Ecodesign Regulation, and the Energy Labelling Regulation, which recently came into force. As A-class products, these new bulbs, spots, and lamps consume at least 43% less power to achieve the same output as standard alternative products.
The new Philips MASTER LED SON-T UE lamps are the first A-class LED SON-T lamps with a color temperature of 4,000K registered in Europe. The new lamps have a similar look, feel and light distribution to their conventional equivalents, and can be easily retrofitted into existing SON-T fittings. When upgrading from conventional HID lamps, a potential full return on investment can be achieved in 2.3 years3. Replacing 100 units of 100W conventional HID lamps with 42.8W A-class LED SON-T could save €7,046 per year. The lamps are nondirectional and non-dimmable E27/E40 lamps, with a lumen range between 4,000 lm and 9,000 lm.
The new A-class MASTER LEDbulbs UE and A-class MASTER LEDspots UE GU10 consume at least 45% less energy, compared to standard LED alternatives, as well as lasting at least three times as long [2],[4]. ams OSRAM signs close to EUR 450 million of infrastructure related asset transactions
The Sale and Leaseback transaction is part of the previously announced financing plan and limited to the newly constructed Kulim 8-inch semiconductor facility’s primary and secondary structures.
On September 27, 2023 ams OSRAM announced its financing plan of EUR 2.25 billion, with around EUR 1.9 billion expected to be financed in the coming months comprising of EUR 800 million capital raise, around EUR 800 million in new senior bond issuances and around EUR 300 million asset-level transactions. These asset-level transactions are now expected to yield close to EUR 450 million in proceeds. The Kulim 8-inch facility Sale and Leaseback transaction is the key element amongst these asset-level transactions.
In 2022, ams OSRAM started an approximately EUR 1 billion investment in manufacturing, facilities and R&D for state-of-the-art LED and microLED. The new facility in Kulim is expected to be the world’s first fully automated 8-inch LED manufacturing facility. The facility shows the company’s dedication to sustainability, featuring highly energy and cost efficient green building practices in compliance with the LEED green building standards.
