Metro switching to LEDs in parking structures

The Wayne County Airport Authority approved a project that will replace more than 6,000 lighting fixtures and add even more while converting to light-emitting diode bulbs. Workers will replace 1,200 210-watt metal halide fixtures in the Blue Deck structure with 2,400 80-watt LED fixtures. All 4,8000 210-watt fixtures in the McNamara Terminal parking structure also will be replaced. The $6.2 million project is expected to reduce energy use by more than 7.3 million kilowatt hours and save the authority about $1.2 million annually.
