Crete kicks in to upgrade traffic signals to LEDs
The Village Board has agreed that Crete will pay part of the cost of upgrading traffic signals and lights to a more energy-efficient bulb. Trustees on Monday approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation that calls for Crete to pay $1,006.25 toward the cost of the upgrade of traffic signals at State Street and Steger Road. Village President Michael Einhorn said most of that intersection is within Steger, but some of the lights fall within Crete’s jurisdiction. Municipal governments for both Crete and Steger, along with Cook County government, will pay matching costs to the $39,201.75 the state Department of Transportation will pay.
