Newton replaces 8,406 streetlights with LEDs

Over the next three months, Newton will replace each of it’s 8,406 streetlights with new light emitting diode, or LED, fixtures. City officials say the replacement will save the city $3 million in energy costs over the next 20 years while reducing the city’s carbon footprint. Mayor Setti Warren said this initiative takes the city’s focus on public safety and sustainability to the next level.
