MIA retrofits museum galleries with LEDs for lower costs and sharper art
The Minneapolis Institute of Arts completed a two-year project to replace 8,300 lightbulbs in its galleries, becoming the only museum of its size to have 100 percent LED lighting. The project cost about $388,000 to complete and required a fresh coat of paint in all the galleries because of the different color of light from the bulbs. Combined with the neutral grey walls, the lights make the art look more crisp and detailed and bring out green, blue and purple hues.
