If Phoenix streets are starting to appear brighter, it's not the moon nor the viewer's imagination. The city has begun installing new street light fixtures with LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, that shine a noticeably whiter, clearer light. The city has begun an effort to convert its about 90,000 street lights to the more energy-efficient fixtures by summer 2017, replacing older high-pressure sodium bulbs that give off an orange-yellowish light.
