$3 million street lighting project to roll out in Manatee
Manatee County has launched a new street lighting project called “Light Up Manatee” to improve the lighting in several neighborhoods throughout the county. The first phase of the project, which is allocated $3 million, will prioritize the oldest parts of the county, specifically districts 2, 3, and 4.
The county will collaborate with Florida Power and Light and Peace River Electric to install solar streetlights. The initiative was started after the commission received feedback from constituents on the lack of lighting. Information Outreach Manager Bill Logan said that the project aims to provide adequate street lighting and prevent unauthorized sales of products.
Dozens of street lights will be installed in the neighborhood east of U.S. 41 between Lincoln Aquatic Center and Washington Park as part of the first phase of the project.
