McDonald's rolls out next-gen lighting technology
McDonald’s is partnering with Philips MyCreation to implement a new 3D-printed lighting system in all 38,000 of its restaurants globally.
The goal is to create a more inviting atmosphere while reducing environmental impact through on-demand, recyclable 3D-printed lampshade production and lower shipping emissions1. The plan involves installing custom-designed, 3D-printed light fixtures in all 38,000 McDonald’s locations worldwide.
The circular pendants will feature a unique embossed design, but the key innovation lies in sustainability. By producing lampshades close to each restaurant using recyclable materials, McDonald’s significantly reduces shipping-related pollution and utility costs.
Additionally, the made-to-order process minimizes waste compared to traditional manufacturing methods. This initiative aligns with McDonald’s ambitious target of substantial pollution reduction by 2050.
