Aircraft Lighting International Introduces Plug-In LED Cabin Lights
Aircraft Lighting International (ALI), based in Long Island, New York, is showcasing two FAA-approved cabin lighting products at NBAA-BACE 2026. The new solutions include a color-changing LED lighting system and replacement LED tubes that fit existing fluorescent fixtures without requiring aircraft rewiring.
Both products have received Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA), allowing ALI to manufacture replacement parts for aircraft originally built by other manufacturers.
The company’s RGBW LED lighting system, which combines red, green, blue and white LEDs, was first displayed at last year’s NBAA-BACE while awaiting regulatory approval. It has since completed RTCA DO-160 environmental testing for airborne equipment and is now installed on aircraft ranging from the Pilatus PC-12 and Beechcraft King Air to the Bombardier Global series and Boeing Business Jets.
The system is compatible with most cabin management systems and can also be controlled through ALI’s smartphone app.
ALI’s second product provides a straightforward upgrade for older 28-volt DC cabin lighting systems. The LED tubes replace conventional bi-pin T5 fluorescent lamps, allowing operators to remove the existing tubes and install the LED alternatives without modifying the aircraft’s wiring. Fluorescent and LED tubes can also be used together in the same cabin.
The company is developing additional versions, including self-ballasted LED tubes that do not require a separate power-regulating component, as well as RGBW models offering color-changing capabilities.
According to ALI sales director Shervin Rezaie, demand for RGB lighting has increased significantly. Around 90% of customers who inquire about RGB lighting now choose it, compared with almost none five to ten years ago.
Fluorescent lighting is gradually being phased out, particularly in Europe, Rezaie said. The new replacement tubes give aircraft operators a way to transition to LED lighting by changing the lamps alone, rather than undertaking more extensive electrical modifications.
