Higher brightness LEDs for energy-efficient general lighting
A company called Advanced Renewable Energy Corporation (ARC Energy), based in Nashua, NH, published results this week of a study showing that sapphire wafers grown using its proprietary controlled heat extraction system (CHES) technology yield 5 percent higher LED brightness over the industry standard. The report focused on sapphire substrates, which are commonly used in LED production for energy-efficient, general solid state lighting as well as electronic displays, possessing a wide variety of surface etch pit densities to determine whether or not they affected LED performance.
