ULBs in Karnataka to switch over to LEDs in phases

Urban local bodies (ULBs) in Karnataka will soon switch over to more efficient light emitting diode (LED) lighting system. While the city corporations in will be the first to switch over to LEDs bulbs, primarily for their bulk street lighting requirements and general requirement in the first phase, the other ULBs namely the city municipal councils will switch over to the same in the second phase, said D K Shivakumar, minister for power here. In an informal chat with STOI, Shivakumar said the move to switch over to LEDs is a project that the ministries for power and urban development are jointly working on.
