West Mahanoy to upgrade street lighting to LEDs

The West Mahanoy Township supervisors will enter into an agreement with PPL Electric Utilities Inc. for the replacement of existing street lights with energy-efficient LED lighting. The supervisors voted at the July 19 meeting to approve the lighting conversion, following other local municipalities who have the new lights through the PPL program. PPL will replace any bulbs more than 10 years old for free. PPL has converted the street lighting in Ringtown and Girardville, and Mahanoy Township approved its participation in the program in March.
