Are Wilmington’s new LED streetlights a health risk?

Almost three years ago Duke Energy Progress began replacing tens of thousands of North Carolina streetlights with LEDs, a project promising to offer only benefits for everyone involved. Last year, though, a report from the American Medical Association (AMA) raised questions about possible health concerns resulting from the light emitted by the types of LEDs typically used for nighttime illumination -- including Duke Energy’s upgrades.
