Mitchell to install lighting system along Dry Run Creek trail

A widely used trail that stretches through the heart of Mitchell (South Dakata) could soon become more accessible and safer, as Parks and Recreation officials push to install lights on the path.

The idea to install a series of lights along the trail for users to access the path at all hours stems from a 2014 active transportation audit the Parks and Recreation Department completed with South Dakota State University, which sought to identify ways the city could enhance transportation for bicyclists, walkers and runners.

The concept designs of the lights that would be installed mimic an old Victorian style street light.
