Folly Beach installs new turtle-friendly lighting

New specialty lights are being installed on Folly Beach's beachfront. Along parts of East Ashley and Arctic Avenues, crews with Dominion Energy are busy replacing existing artificial lighting.

Dominion Energy has begun installation on 37 turtle-friendly streetlights. So artificial lighting has the potential to disorient and confuse the turtle hatchlings."

When the little ones hatch, they'll see the Moon over the ocean which is bright white, which is what they're looking for by nature and not a street to head out to the road, so they'll head out to the water.
