Council votes to spend £1m on LED street lights
The South Kesteven District Council is taking significant steps to enhance energy efficiency by converting its street lights to energy-saving LEDs. Over the next 18 months, they will invest £1 million in upgrading more than 3,000 street lights. This move aims to reduce costs and emissions.
The contract for this project was awarded to E.on energy solutions during the council’s cabinet meeting on Tuesday afternoon. Currently, the council oversees 3,893 street lights within its district.
By transitioning to LED technology (short for light-emitting diodes), the council anticipates substantial savings. In fact, completing this upgrade could result in a 61% reduction in the street-light budget, which amounted to £633,000 in the fiscal year 2023-241.
