Lister Hospital spends £1m installing energy efficient lighting
The UK government has granted over £1 million to a hospital for the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting.
The East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust plans to replace lights in every ward, theatre, clinic, and office at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. Approximately 20,000 fittings will transition from fluorescent bulbs to LED within the next month.
According to Karen McConnell, the deputy chair of the trust, this initiative represents an important step forward toward sustainability.
It is part of a broader effort to decarbonize the hospital sites. The grant, totaling £1.1 million, was awarded by the NHS National Energy Efficiency Fund, which aims to reduce operating costs by investing in environmentally friendly projects and channeling any savings back into front-line care.
