Coventry Plans £10m LED Street Lighting Upgrade
Plans to upgrade Coventry's street lights with LED technology, costing over £10 million, are set to be reviewed by councillors.
The city council's cabinet will examine proposals on Tuesday to replace more than 29,000 individual lights.
Councillor Patricia Hetherton, the cabinet member for city services, stated that LED bulbs would help the authority reduce costs and its carbon footprint.
She mentioned that this upgrade would provide a better and more financially efficient service.
A report indicated that the council's energy bill for street lights was £3.4 million in the last financial year.
The new LED lighting would use nearly half the current energy consumption, leading to annual savings of £900,000 based on current costs. Additionally, the new bulbs would require significantly less maintenance, officials noted.
