Street lights of Coventry to be switched back on at night
Street lights in Coventry will be switched back on after midnight following the introduction of new technology.
Previously, lights on more than 2,500 streets were turned off between midnight and 5:30 AM as part of Coventry City Council’s cost-saving measures, prompting safety concerns from hundreds of residents.
In January, the council rejected calls to reverse the decision, stating that crime rates had not increased due to the changes.
Councillor Richard Brown, responsible for council finances, confirmed that more areas in Coventry would see streetlights restored from autumn and winter as upgrades are implemented. The new scheme will extend to between 27,000 and 30,000 lights—far more than those affected by the current policy—and will include dimming them to 30% at night.
