Golf course lighting project cancelled

A plan to install lights at a golf course in Des Moines has been canceled after nearby residents expressed concerns. The project involved adding lighting to nine holes at Waveland Golf Course so people could play golf in the evening.

The plan was being developed by the city in cooperation with a lighting company and a sports-lighting manufacturer. However, when officials held a meeting to inform the public, many residents voiced strong objections to the proposal.

Neighbors said they were worried about light pollution, possible effects on wildlife, and the fact that they felt they had not been properly informed about the plans beforehand.

After hearing these concerns, the parties involved decided to cancel the project. As a result, no lighting will be installed at the golf course, and golfers will continue to play only during daylight hours.
