Trade war gives domestic lighting makers a competitive edge

With the country embroiled in a tariff war with China, the benefits of a “Made in America” tag just skyrocketed, and companies that produce goods here — including lighting — are leveraging that distinction. While the vast majority of lighting is still made abroad, a handful of manufacturers have done it in the U.S. for decades. “As a U.S. manufacturer, we enjoy the competitive advantages of having complete control of our designs, delivery, service, quality, inventory levels and costs,” said Rene Quintana, principal, Fine Art Lamps. “We are less dependent on ‘uncontrollables’ with foreign countries.”
