Apple’s First Foldable iPhone May Feature Samsung’s Thinnest OLED Display Yet
As Apple gears up to launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026, new reports are shedding light on key details—especially around its display technology. According to SamMobile, Samsung Display has developed its thinnest-ever foldable OLED panel, reportedly surpassing even those used in its own Galaxy Z Fold series.
The Korean Economic Daily adds that Samsung Display has been tapped as the exclusive OLED supplier for the foldable iPhone. This partnership could significantly boost Samsung’s share in the global foldable OLED market—from 40% to over 70%.
Samsung has reportedly achieved this breakthrough by embedding the touchscreen layer directly into the display panel, reducing thickness by 19% and nearly eliminating visible creases—meeting Apple’s strict quality standards.
Meanwhile, MacRumors notes that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be its slimmest foldable yet, with a folded thickness of about 9.5mm (including the camera bump) and an unfolded thickness of 4.5mm. That would put it in close competition with the Oppo Find N5, currently the world’s thinnest foldable at 4.2mm when unfolded. However, Apple’s version may use an even more advanced iteration of Samsung’s new OLED panel.
Samsung is already a primary OLED supplier for Apple and is reportedly set to provide M14-based OLED panels for the entire iPhone 17 series, according to South Korea’s ETNews.
And the Apple-Samsung partnership could go even further. The Elec reports that Samsung Display is also developing sample OLED panels for the MacBook Pro. Its new 8th-generation OLED production facility, expected to be operational in the first half of 2026, will include the A6 factory dedicated to manufacturing displays for Apple’s high-end laptops.
