More U.S. homes used LEDs over other bulb types for indoor lighting in 2024
Most U.S. households now rely on LED bulbs for indoor lighting, according to recent data. Around 90% of homes use LED lighting in some form, and more than a third have fully switched to LEDs for all indoor use.
Lighting preferences have shifted significantly over the past decade as more energy-efficient options became available.
In 2015, only about 4% of households primarily used LED bulbs, but by 2024 that share had grown to roughly 63%.
At the same time, older technologies have largely fallen out of favor. The share of homes mainly using compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) dropped sharply from 32% to 7%, while the use of incandescent or halogen bulbs declined from 31% to 10%.
