UI donates energy-efficient light bulbs to families
United Illuminating, a subsidiary of AVANGRID, Inc., donated 576 Energy Star LED light bulbs and weatherization services information to Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services, according to a release.
The donation was delivered alongside a weekly contribution from the Connecticut Food Bank to the IRIS food pantry, as, in part of the Energize Connecticut Initiative, UI recently partnered with the Food Bank to hold energy-efficiency education events at UI service territory food pantries and encouraged residents to replace incandescent bulbs with Energy Star LED bulbs, the release said.
Four free LED bulbs were distributed to the 144 families who visited the pantry on Dec. 14, the release said, noting “Each family will reduce their energy consumption by roughly 1,250 kilowatt-hours (kWh) over the lifetime of each bulb or over $2,400 over the lifetime of the bulb. This event will generate an estimated total of $140,000 in energy cost savings over the lifetime of the bulbs.”
