Mayor Ben Walsh has
appointed the city’s code enforcement director to oversee a new network of 17,400 smart street lights in the city. Ken Towsley has run the city’s Division of Code Enforcement since 2013 and is also a licensed master electrician. The street lights are a central part of Walsh’s effort to make Syracuse a 'smart city'. The lights allow the city to maintain a citywide grid with options to install 5G hubs, WiFi routers, cameras or other types of technology that can be monitored and maintained from a single hub.
