Sara Mosele Interiors Launches A Weekly Podcast Design with a Human Touch

Sara Mosele Interiors, an innovative design and architecture studio in New York, has launched a weekly podcast called Design with a Human Touch to highlight news, trends, insights, and projects of inspiration.

Drawing attention now is a conversation with Álvaro Catalán de Ocόn, a Madrid-based designer who is the catalyst behind a company called Pet Lamp that upcycles discarded plastic bottles into the basic material for beautiful indigenous designs. The plastic is woven into extraordinary lampshade designs in different shapes and sizes by artisans in a range of countries.

During the podcast, Sara does a deep dive into Álvaro’s mission, which started with a simple question: How can we upcycle plastic bottles to create designs that express the beauty of a particular culture and empower local communities in the process? Since the first project launched in Colombia in 2012, Pet Lamp has expanded around the globe with projects in Chile, Ethiopia, Japan, Australia, Thailand, and Ghana. The Pet Lamp team works with local communities and artisans to create gorgeous woven designs, then sends them to Madrid for assembly into working lamps for sale. Each design is unique and a lifeline to hope and employment for the artisans involved.

Álvaro shares the emotional elements behind the designs and his hope for the future of Pet Lamp, including a new line of rugs also woven from plastic. For more information, visit http://www.petlamp.org.
