LEDs light up 50% of households in Dakshina Kannada
The district appears to have lapped up the initiative to save energy by wholeheartedly embracing LED bulbs, which seem to be swiftly replacing the energy sapping incandescent light bulbs. As on date, about 50% of the households in Dakshina Kannada are using LEDs. The scheme was launched in Mangaluru in the first week of February, with 29,0 32 bulbs being sold that month. As on 5 June, 15.58 lakh LED bulbs have been purchased by MESCOM consumers. In terms of sale of LED bulbs, Mangaluru is third, behind Bengaluru with 48 lakh and Mysuru with 25 lakh. So far, 1.03 crore LED bulbs have replaced incandescent light bulbs in the state.
