Street lighting, road signs being converted to LED in Washtenaw County
Intersection street lights and lighted road-name signs are being switched to energy-efficient LED bulbs in Washtenaw County. The county plans to have the $35,000 project done in six to eight months across 30 intersections, swapping out 120 bulbs. The county aims to reduce as much energy and expense as possible, Jeff Young, signals engineer, said. Each LED costs $197 but is expected to last about 11 years. Current bulbs have to be replaced at least once a year, he said.
