Mesa completes seven-year project to replace all streetlights with LEDs

The city of Mesa, Arizona, has completed a seven-year project to replace all 46,064 of its streetlights with LED fixtures. The final fixture was installed on August 27 near the city’s transportation department building.

Mesa began replacing its streetlights in 2019. According to the city, the switch to LED lighting is expected to save more than 19,250 megawatt-hours of electricity each year, while reducing energy costs by more than $7 million annually.

The LED fixtures also have a longer lifespan than the lights they replace. This is expected to reduce maintenance requirements and the number of replacement fixtures needed over time. Fewer maintenance operations also mean fewer traffic restrictions caused by streetlight work.

With the installation of the final fixture, Mesa’s entire public streetlight network has now been converted to LED technology.
