LEDs spark high-wattage growth for ABQ's Nicor

Those lights in your ceiling are changing, and the commercial lighting business has quietly gone through its biggest revolution in 100 years. LEDs — or light emitting diodes — have become the go-to technology for commercial lighting because they're brighter and much more efficient than incandescent bulbs or fluorescent bulbs. Albuquerque's Nicor Inc. is taking the technology and running with it, and the company has seen such explosive growth in the industry that it's planning on doubling its square footage and adding at least 25 people by the end of 2015, said president and CEO Rocklan Lawrence on Monday.
