City of Cape Town's LED lighting upgrade making steady progress

The City of Cape Town’s Directorate for Energy has invested R3.5 million in energy-efficient LED lighting for Khayelitsha, aiming to enhance safety and reduce energy consumption. This investment is already showing positive results.

City officials report steady progress in upgrading 222 high-mast street lights, marking a significant step towards a brighter and more secure community.

Teams are gradually replacing old mercury vapour installations with more efficient and brighter LED components. Last week, Mayco member for energy Xanthea Limberg visited one of the project sites in Eyethu, Khayelitsha, where inspectors were reviewing the newly installed LED public lights.

Limberg expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the work completed so far has been impressive.
