LED lighting upgrade for Sconce and Devon Park
Newark’s award-winning Sconce and Devon Park is set for another eco-friendly upgrade, thanks to investment from Newark and Sherwood District Council.
As Newark’s largest open space, Sconce and Devon Park is a beloved spot for residents of all ages. It has consistently earned the internationally recognized Green Flag status for its excellent visitor facilities, high environmental and maintenance standards, and community involvement opportunities.
Over the past year, the park has seen numerous environmental improvements, including new play and fitness equipment, solar photovoltaic (PV) panel installations, orchard restoration, new footpaths, and rejuvenated football pitches.
The latest initiative involves upgrading all internal and external lighting to LED, known for being one of the most energy-efficient and environmentally friendly lighting options. LED lights last over 30 times longer than traditional bulbs, are highly energy-efficient, mercury-free, and 100% recyclable.
Last year, the park’s play area was transformed into a castle-themed space inspired by Newark’s Civil War history, creating a magical environment for families. New fitness equipment was also installed to complement existing park runs, walking trails, and personal training classes.
