City considers $2.8 mil LED lighting upgrade

The Wichita Falls City Council will consider a resolution Tuesday to contract with Ameresco to provide services for a light-emitting diode (LED) system upgrade to more than 5,000 roadway lights in the city. The city of Wichita Falls has been working with Ameresco for an investment-grade audit of the city’s street lighting system. At least 2,490 roadway lighting fixtures have already been outfitted with LED systems. This potential project would switch out the remaining 5,727 high-pressure sodium, metal halide, and mercury-vapor street lights in the city. (Photo: Billy Hathorn)
